Technical requirements
Truck drivers have to take particular care on a Rola journey. The following conditions of carriage and safety regulations must be strictly observed. Before each journey, truck drivers will be given a leaflet entitled "Checks for a safe journey", which details the relevant safety requirements.
Carriage requirements
Departure Terminal:
- Check-in at terminal no earlier than two hours before closing time. Parking rules within and around the terminal are to be respected.
- Comply with the instructions from the authorized personnel at all times.
- Ensure that tarpaulins and sliding roofs are closed and properly secured.
- Secure air deflectors.
- >Check all trucks for loose or defective parts (tarpaulins) and secure if necessary.
- Secure tank covers.
- Retract or remove radio antennae. Radios, wireless or other equipment should be switched off completely to avoid the risk of the antennae being moved.
- Trucks should be loaded at max. 5km/hr as per the existing arrangements.
- Whilst loading, the truck's suspension should be set to the driving position (clearance from loading platform!)
- Transit through the wagons should be possible at all times (loose wedges, opened flaps, etc.)
- Secure the truck after loading has taken place (pull on the brakes, min. four wedges secured), turn off the engine and release the pressure in the suspension.
- Turn off all instruments and electronic appliances in the driver's cab.
- Fold the mirrors on the side of the truck inwards.
- It is prohibited to enter the vehicle directly underneath live overhead cables.
- Danger to the driver from the electrical current from the overhead cables (15,000 volts) should be observed.
During the journey
- It is prohibited to remain in the truck during the journey.
- It is prohibited to leave the sleeping car during the journey. Only authorized personnel can agree to drivers getting in and out of their vehicles at the terminals.
- Only those people named on the booking will be allowed to travel. They should have a valid identity card/passport available at all times.
- Travelling companions and pets are not permitted.
- Smoking is prohibited in the sleeping car. Please note: The wagons are equipped with a fire alarm system.
- Do not throw any objects out of the window. Please ensure that the sleeping car and toilets are kept clean.
- The safety instructions in the sleeping car should be observed.
- In case of emergency contact the train driver via the voice communication system.
- The sleeping car should only be exited in case of emergency. At all times, any potential dangers relating to rail transport should be observed, e.g. approaching trains or low overhead cables (15,000 volts).
Arrival at the terminal
- Comply with the instructions from authorized personnel at all times.
- Authorized personnel will confirm when you can return to your trucks.
- All wedges should be removed and returned to their storage place at the side of the wagon prior to unloading.
- Authorized personnel will confirm when you can leave the train.
- Trucks should disembark at max. 5km/hr.
- Whilst disembarking, the truck's suspension should be set to the driving position (clearance from loading platform!)
- Transit through the wagons should be possible at all times (loose wedges, opened flaps, etc.)
- It is prohibited to fit the antennae directly beneath the overhead cables.
- Danger to the driver from the electrical current from the overhead cables (15,000 volts) should be observed.
- Departure from the terminal must be effected within 15 minutes after offloading the vehicle from the train.
The customer will be liable for any damage to trucks, wagons, railway equipment, etc. which arises as a result of non compliance with the stated rules and regulations.
